Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in rural Maryland, Alex Arzt began working in the darkroom at an early age. The American landscape and culture drive much of Arzt’s photographic work, and she often travels by interstate with three cameras on the passenger seat. Arzt’s experience growing up on a farm provided a platform to explore the undulating and contradictory relationships people consistently have with the “non-human”. Arzt’s love of meeting passionate people, exploring this country, and learning through looking, continually inspire her life as an image maker. Arzt received her B.F.A. from Rhode Island School of Design and has exhibited her work at Caroline Collective in Houston, TX, Candela Books+Gallery in Richmond, VA, Mixed Greens in New York, NY, and The Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA. After completing a work/study program at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, Arzt was selected to participate in Review Santa Fe at Center this year.
