Neely Johnson is a Brooklyn based photographer with a Masters in Photography from Pratt Institute. Born and raised in suburban Virginia, her portraits have a strong emphasis on light, color, and gesture, with themes that are greatly influenced by her southern upbringing. They exist between what is real, what is staged, and what is imagined. Her portraits are of people she finds interesting, or unusual, often putting herself in the frame and taking on a character. As she has done in her most recent project, “Figmentation," a collection of work that has been received with enthusiasm and positive reviews from audiences and peers.
