Malú Alvarez was born in Mexico City and grew up in San Antonio, Texas. She is interested in storytelling; her photographs are linked with family memories, pictures and personal experiences. For the past fifteen years Malú has been traveling back to her home state and birth country to shoot and collect images, exploring the notion of home. During recent annual trips to Northern Spain Malú has been delving into her grandfathers’ roots and creating images about identity. Her latest work from India further reflects Malú’s investigation into the elements and environments that shape our personal identities.
She has shown her work in group exhibitions at Christopher Henry Gallery, Foley Gallery and The International Center of Photography in New York City - where Malú also participated in Daniel Cooney Fine Art’s Emerging Artists Auction - and she has also exhibited at the Carnegie Art Museum in California.
Malú divides time between New York and Texas.
